Case Closed: The Desperate Truth

Anime Review

By Katherine Luther, About.com

Desperate times call for desperate measures! Conan learns this maxim all too well as the tragic truths behind his next batch of unbelievable cases come to light. First, Conan investigates the bizarre events behind a looming scandal at a video game company. Conan must figure out how a man stepped on to a train alive, got off as a corpse, and how his killer wasn't on board at all. Finally, a case involving a popular cleaning company gets messy when a large metal beam is dropped onto an innocent man. And is Conan finally getting closer to uncovering the identities of the evil men who took away his body?

The Desperate Truth is the second DVD collection in the Case Closed series and brings us three more episodes that give us a peek into Conan Edogawa's life.

In the first episode, Game Gone Bad, murder, explosives and industry trade secrets are at the top of the list as Conan tries to discover who is swapping out the briefcases. Interestingly, a main player in this conspiracy is a cohort of the men who shrunk Conan at the beginning of the series. Needless to say, he's more than a little motivated to find out who this guy is.

Train Trick is episode number two, and Conan helps solve a murder that occured on a train, although not the one he's riding. When a dead man is found on a train running the same schedule as their own, Conan thinks he knows who did the deed. The problem is, Conan's suspect wasn't on the train either!

Episode number three is The Sunfish Murder. Getting right to business, the Vice President of the Sunfish Cleaning Company is killed when a large metal beam is dropped on top of him. Of course, Richard is on the case which means nothing will get solved until Conan gets involved.

Case Closed: The Desperate Truth is a fun watch - I enjoyed it as much as Volume 1. Its a fast moving storyline and Conan Edogawa makes for a likable hero. Bottom line? Add this one to your anime collection.
