The domed city of Romdo is an impenetrable would-be utopia where humans and robots coexist, and everything is under complete government control, or so it appears. While working on a mysterious murder case, Re-l Mayer, a female detective from the Civilian Intelligence Office, receives a foreboding message that something is going to "awaken." outside world...This is Ergo Proxy, one of the new animes from Geneon Entertainment. Directed by Murase Shukou (Samurai Champloo, Witch Hunter Robin), Ergo Proxy is a dark, mysterious ride, full of suspense and surprises. The city of Romdo is a presumably peaceful city, one where everything is regulated and "ambitions are not required". But Re-I Mayer has plenty of ambition and as an Inspector from the Civilian Intelligence Office, she intends to uncover the truth no matter what.
When an AutoReiv (robot) becomes infected with a strange virus known as Cogito, it becomes self-aware and no longer holds any loyalty to human command. A murder occurs and many believe it is the work of the AutoReiv... but could it be the mysterious phantom instead?
Ergo Proxy is rated OT for teens 16 and up, due to its mature subject matter but if you're of age, this is definitely an anime to see. Volume 1 hit your favorite DVD shelves on November 21st - Volume 2 is due on January 23, 2007. For more Ergo Proxy, visit the official website.
