Miyazaki Hayao
Born on January 5, 1941, Miyazaki benefited from an upper-class upbringing during World War II. He earned degrees in economics and political science from Gakushuin University and then set those aside to become an animator at Toei Douga.

There, he met Ota Akemi, his future bride and Takahata Isao, his soon-to-be partner in Studio Ghibli. Over the next several years, Miyazaki produced My Neighbor Totoro, Grave of the Fireflies and in 1997, Princess Mononoke. Anime was never the same.

Other production credits include:
Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle
Dog of Flanders
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Lupin III
