Top 6 Anime DVD's for Kids

By

Wondering what to get that young anime fan in your house? Here's my top picks for the perfect anime collection for kids.

1. Case Closed: The Desperate Truth

The Desperate Truth is the second volume in the Case Closed series - you can get the scoop on volume 1 here - and its a must have for young anime fans.

The storyline is fun, fast and revolves around a kid who isn't taken seriously by anyone. I love this series. You will too.

2. Dragonball Z

Dragonball Z is the best - and I'm totally impartial here :) - anime series out there. Lots of action, great storylines, really good Good Guys and very bad Bad Guys keep you on the edge of your seat.

One word of caution: DBZ can be pretty intense and has a huge amount of fighting in it so keep that in mind when letting the really little kids watch it.

3. Spirited Away

Though it never got the publicity it should have, Spirited Away is a beautiful anime movie and one well worth watching.

Spirited Away is the story of a little girl, Chihiro, and her parents who find themselves in a fantastic and alternate reality. Her parents eat until they turn into pigs and Chihiro meets (and helps) several supernatural beings on her quest to save mom and dad from life as a hog. Weird? Yes, it is, but you'll love it anyway.

4. Sherlock Hound

Sherlock Hound is your favorite Detective Holmes turned dog. Beautifully animated, this brilliant anime series comes from Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Tortoro) and features a canine crew in a delightful whodunit.

5. Fullmetal Alchemist

Although more for the bigger kids and teens, Fullmetal Alchemist is a wonderful new anime from FUNimation. Its a little violent at times so be forewarned, but the storyline is great and its definitely action-packed.

6. Kiki's Delivery Service

Another great from Miyazaki, Kiki's is the story of a young witch finding her way through the world. The voice of Kiki is done by Kirsten Dunst and her wiley cat is none other than Phil Hartman.
