New Anime Resolutions for 2005

Anime Ideas for the New Year

By Katherine Luther, About.com

2005, already? Time flies when you’re having fun, doesn’t it? And with the new year comes new resolutions. Those of you that have been around for a while might remember my set from 2004 and, just for the fun of it I thought we’d take a look back to see how we did.

  • Improve my social life. Okay, I didn’t get to host the anime party as planned but I did attend several cons – that counts doesn’t it?

  • Spend more time with my family. I scored big on this one. With all the new anime this past year – Spiral, Fullmetal Alchemist and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (just to name a few), we’ve been watching anime together all year long.

  • Broaden my horizons. Part of this journey we call life is the need to learn something new. My suggestion last year was to take up Japanese or try your hand at collecting. While I haven’t yet mastered that second language, I’m already an avid collector and managed to add some excellent pieces to my stash. For 2005, I have a couple of goals: first, I’d like to continue with last year’s recommendation and see if I can’t get a little Japanese in my vocabulary. Who knows? Maybe I’ll put something up on the site to help. Secondly, I want to devote some time to being more creative, since that’s what I really love to do and anime is the perfect venue for that. This year look for lots of features that focus on writing and illustrating your own animes and mangas, making your own AMV’s and other artistic anime endeavors. And of course, I’ll keep collecting. There’s always great anime merchandise out there to choose from.

  • Get in shape. Okay, I made this one last year and the Power Yoga DVD is still sitting on the shelf. *sigh* But at least I bought the DVD which is a step in the right direction, however small it might be. This year, I’m determined to develop a few new physical strengths and I’m thinking some martial arts might be the way to go. Of course, I’ll open up that Power Yoga DVD too… No sense in letting it go to waste.

  • What can you do to make 2005 a banner year? How about building your own anime website? Get it up and running and I’ll post a link on Anime for you. Or try your hand at some Japanese cooking. Our anime heroes and heroines always seem to be eating something interesting – let’s see if we can figure out how to make it. The point is, we’ve got a brand new year in front of us. Let’s make it interesting. Let’s make it great. Let’s make it anime.

    Happy New Year!
