In a recent press release, Cartoon Network and VIZ Media announced Eyeshield 21 had been added to the Toonami Jetstream lineup.

Adapted from the popular manga, Eyeshield 21 is the story of Sena Kobayakawa, a small and quiet kid who's been picked on most of his life. He joins the high school varsity football team as the team manager to try to make a fresh start and give himself a new image.

But Sena has amazing speed and when the jerky team captain Yoichi Hiruma discovers it, he makes Sena play as a running back. But no fame and fortune here - Yoichi gives Sena a secret identity - Eyeshield 21 - so no one even knows that its him!

Even so, Sena wanted change - now he's definitely going to get it!

Eyeshield 21 was written by Rilchiro Inagaki, illustrated by Yasuke Murata and spawned a feature film and several trading card games due to its rising popularity in Japan. “Eyeshield 21 is an action-packed drama with a positive message, teaching the importance of teamwork, overcoming obstacles and having goals,” says Daniel Marks, Senior Vice President, Strategy & Business Development, VIZ Media.

The new series debuted on December 17, 2007 on Toonami Jetstream, a joint venture between Cartoon Network and VIZ Media providing popular and up and coming anime shows for direct viewing on the Internet.

You can catch episode 2 of Eyeshield 21 on Toonami Jetstream until February 4, 2008.
