What's going on in the world of anime this Valentine's month? Lots and lots :)Kiki's Delivery Live Action
Word on the street is that Disney has opted to make a live action movie of Kiki's Delivery Service. Kiki's is the story of a young witch (voiced by Kirsten Dunst) who turns her knack for riding a broom into a thriving little business. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away), Kiki's is a fun and lively little anime. Can't wait to see what they do with the live action. Dragonball Z Live Action?
And speaking of live action, wasn't that DBZ live action movie supposed to be out sometime soon? Do a search and you'll find a wide variety of rumors flying around. I did find the Dragonball Z Live Action Movie Forum which has quite a few updates and tidbits on the project. According to this site, Fox will be producing the movie and expects it out in 2007. Tom Welling (Smallville) is said to be playing our beloved Goku while Ray Park (Sleepy Hollow) will fill Vegeta's shoes. Supposedly, Hugh Jackman was the first choice for Goku but couldn't work the schedule out (too bad... he'd make a perfectly sultry Goku). Is any of it true? Can't say for sure. FUNimation's official DBZ site (Dragonballz.com) doesn't have much of anything posted and I've seen several sites that say the movie isn't coming at all. You would think that someone would want to make a live action DBZ considering the success of X-Men, Spiderman and other comic/cartoon characters that have hit the big screen, but who knows. I'll keep you posted as the updates roll in.
Appleseed The Movie
Appleseed The Movie hit select theaters on January 14, 2005. According to the Anime News Network, Geneon has slated the DVD release for May 10, 2005. You can read the full story here and you can see the movie's official website here.
