What's going on in the wild world of Anime?  Ask and ye shall receive...

Calling All Artists

TOKYOPOP announces its Rising Stars of Manga Contest.  Realizing that there's a whole slew of talented artists out there, TOKYOPOP wants to see your work.  What do you get out of the deal?  Possible publication and maybe a little prize money to boot.  First place receives a cash prize of $2,500; second place grabs a cool grand and eight lucky runner-ups will get $500 each.  I've heard from many of you that you're dying to break into Anime... well my little sweeties.... here's your chance.  FAQ, Entry Form and Submission Details can all be found at the site.  Submissions will be accepted August 15th through December 16, 2002.  AND, one last rule:  I'm calling first dibs on an exclusive interview, should any of the Anime Readers win.

Coming Soon

Tokyo Pig will be premiering this fall on ABC Family.  Nine-year old Spencer likes to draw in his journal.  And, apparently, he also likes to draw pigs.  Imagine his surprise when one comes to life!  Partnered with his magic pig, Sunny, Spencer discovers that whatever he imagines becomes a reality.  Join Spencer and Sunny as they embark on unimaginable adventures... what would you draw if you had a magic pig named Sunny?

Beyblade and Shinzo will also be making their debut on ABC Family.  Catch em all in September.

Contests

Just as a reminder, this month sparks the beginning of the Stripsearch promo by Dark Horse Comics (Blade of the Immortal, Astro Boy).  Featuring one new comic/manga title per month, Dark Horse is working to put untapped talent in the spotlight.  What more could you ask for?

Cool Stuff

AnimeFEST hosts their annual convention on Labor Day weekend in Dallas.  Yours truly has plans to attend and will be sure to share the scoop.

Viz Communications has debuted its Shonen Jump series - a collection of popular manga just for your reading pleasure.  Dragon Ball Z, Yu Gi Oh! and Yu Yu Hakusho are just a few of the titles you'll see.  And, as a special promotion, Viz is hosting the Shonen Jump sweepstakes - win and you and a friend will be zipped off to Tokyo for a week and given a tour of the Shueisha headquarters.

For those of you who haven't already seen them, Bandai has produced their Anime Collector series, including figures from Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, The Big O and other Anime greats.  Sweet.

And, for all you Robotech fans out there, Robotech.com is definitely THE place to be.  Get the latest AnimeExpo coverage, check out the new trading card series announced in July and grab a glimps of the VF-1D special edition poseables.
