SOS... SOS... No, that's not a distress call. Its a plea to Save Our Scouts. Premiering in 1995, Sailor Moon swept the U.S. with her battle against the Negaforce. Lovesick schoolgirl by day, daring crime fighter by night, Sailor Moon gave teenage girls a new and exciting role model. And one that they're screaming to protect. Based upon the manga created by Takeuchi Naoko, the anime series features a milder version of Serena (Sailor Moon) and gang. Still, Serena remains the ever-whining "crybaby", appearing somewhat shallow and.. well... weak. Even so, accompanied by the mystical (and talking) cat, Luna, Serena discovers she is, in fact, Princess Serena and can wield the power of the Moon. Her cohorts - Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus -- appear within the first 50 episodes and compliment Serena's whining with courage, intellect and good ole fashioned moxie. Later episodes include Sailor Pluto, Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Saturn. Serena's love is Prince Darien, also a crime-fighting teen under the guise of Tuxedo Mask. Together, they battle Queen Beryl and her henchmen: Malachite, Jedite, Neflyte, and Zoycite. (Guide's note: spellings changed between dub and original.) These villains comprise the Negaforce (in the original version, they came from the Negaverse) and are full of magical spells and tricks to steal life-force, harness energy and, in general, rule the Universe. So why all the fuss? Cartoon Network, the show's only network, has pulled the Sailor Moon series. Rumors are flying as to whether it will come back or not but, for now, the Sailor Scouts are without a home. Anime (yours truly) has requested info from the source and will keep you posted.
