Q.  Who is Yami Yugi?

A.  Yami Yugi is the spirit of the ancient Pharaoh who sealed the Shadow Games in the Millennium Items.  To do this, he was forced to seal his own spirit in the Millennium Puzzle.  When Yugi solves the puzzle, he releases Yami's spirit (although Yami's memory has been erased) and becomes possessed by this new personality.
