Anime Music Video: Final Fantasy VIII to My Heart Will Go On

Monday December 1, 2008

I haven't found just a ton a romantic AMV's that I really like so I thought this one would be a nice change of pace, not to mention that its a little unique all on its own anyway. The song is "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion (although it needs no introduction) and the clips are of Rinoa and Squall from Final Fantasy VIII. Enjoy!

Matt Damon and Tina Fey Top The List of VA's for Miyazaki's Ponyo

Sunday November 30, 2008
If you were Miyazaki Hayao and could have anyone you wanted to voice your next brilliant work of anime art, who would you choose?

Probably someone equally as exciting, right?

According to GhibliWorld.com, the U.S. version of Miyazaki's Ponyo will feature such notable names as Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cate Blanchett, Frankie Jonas, Lily Tomlin, Betty White, Liam Neeson, Noah Lindsey Cyrus and Cloris Leachman voicing the parts of the movie though no word yet as to who voices who.

Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea is set to hit U.S. theaters in 2009.

No More Saturday Morning Cartoons On Fox

Sunday November 30, 2008
Fox is trading in its Saturday morning cartoon bonanza for station-controlled infomercials and local programming.

After 4Kids sued the Fox network in the early part of 2008, the two companies decided to end their programming arrangement and as of January 1st, 4Kids will no longer provide Fox with its Saturday morning programming.

What does this mean for you?

Well, in addition to old favorites such as TMNT, 4Kids also holds broadcast rights to shows such as Yu-Gi-Oh! and Dinosaur King so if these were part of your Saturday morning lineup, you'll soon have to look elsewhere for your weekend anime fix.

On a good note, 4Kids still manages The CW programming so we'll likely see most of our favorites showing up there instead.

Monday November 24, 2008

If you're still trying to figure out what to buy that favorite anime fan of yours for Christmas, look no further - the Le Chevalier D'Eon Complete Series Box Set is coming to DVD.

Set to hit the streets on December 2, 2008, Le Chevalier D'Eon is a fantastic historical anime based loosely on the real-life D'Eon de Beaumont, a secret spy for King Louis XV back in the 1700's. The anime series takes some actual accounts of de Beaumont and weaves them with an explosive and supernatural storyline to create one heck of an anime. Rated M for mature audiences, this is definitely one you want to add to your collection.

Video On Demand Vs. DVD?

Monday November 10, 2008
As video-on-demand (VOD) continues to grow in popularity, more and more anime companies are jumping on the bandwagon.

Most recently, FUNimation added a number of titles to Hulu.com in addition to its programming already on Joost.com and even their own VOD section at FUNimation.com. Of course, sites such as Hulu are free, making it easier to watch your new anime without having to purchase the DVD.

But that said, some of us enjoy having our anime favorites on hand to watch again and again and yes, again - but with the economy the way it is, who can afford to splurge on tons of new DVDs? Enter pay-per-download services that provide complete episodes that can be instantly downloaded to your computer for a buck or two, a service that most of the big anime companies, including ADV and FUNimation have chosen to offer.

Problem solved right?

That all depends on your preference so I'm posing the question to you:

Is pay-per-download the future of anime?
