You know the faces, you might even know the names -- but do you know the fame?
This time around, Anime.About.com's newest best-of-anime feature focuses on characters who've changed the face of anime forever by the sheer force of their personalities. Once they came along, they left a mark -- whether for better or worse! -- and inspired the appearance of similar characters in any number of other anime titles after them.
It takes time to find out whether or not a given character leaves a mark, and so many of the characters featured on this date from at least ten years back or more. Some ought to be familiar -- Asuka [shown here], Rei, and Shinji, from Evangelion, for instance -- while others may inspire a bit of digging to learn more about the shows they were originally featured in.
