A live-action adaptation of the controversial anime Kite (compare prices) is not only under way, but has added a big-ticket name to its cast: Samuel L. Jackson.
A report at Movies.com has more details. Director David R. Ellis -- who previously collaborated with Jackson on the would-be cult hit Snakes on a Plane -- has signed up Jackson, as yet undetermined, in the Kite adaptation.
Jackson is no stranger to anime, having provided the voice for none other than Afro Samurai himself. Ellis has directed projects like films in the Final Destination series, and took over directing duties for Kite in 2011.
Kite remains a controversial anime title even to this day, the story of a teenaged girl who is drafted into being an assassin and unleashes all sorts of mayhem on her enemies. The original U.S. DVD releases of the film were shorn of some of their more explicit footage -- most of it involving the visibly underage heroine -- but the recent reissues have been cut progressively less.
