'Ghost in the Shell' Live Action Movie

Back in 2008, rumor had it that Dreamworks had bought the rights to produce a live-action movie based on Ghost in the Shell. Rumor also had it that the movie would be in 3D.
It now looks like that rumor was true.
Headed by none other than Steven Spielberg himself, a live-action 3d Ghost in the Shell is just one step closer to reality - they've signd Laeta Kalogridis to write the script.
In addition, they've also hired Avi Arad of Seaside Entertainment (along with Ari Arad and Steven Paul) to produce.
No word yet on actors or a release date, but you can bet everyone is watching this one develop closely.
The story of Major Motoko Kusanagi, Ghost is the Shell takes place in the year 2029 - a new future, where mankind has found a way to "merge" with computers. The result is that humans can now reside in a virtual universe and can even download themselves into another "shell". Kusanagi is a cyberspace agent, tracking a criminal known only as Project 2501 - a virtual personality that doesn't need a shell and can hack into the brains of anyone, including top officials from rival governments.
It will be interesting to see if Dreamworks stays with the 3D twist since many 3D movies don't fare as well as their 2D counterparts but that said, if there was ever an anime-turned-live-action movie to go 3D, Ghost in the Shell would definitely be it.

oh dear..
Be prepared for a big-boobed, platinum blonde Major Kusanagi, dressed in x-men leftovers(heey, wouldn’t it be nice to put in a flappy eared, camel-like character for the humorous bits?..you could cgi’em) mumbling incomprehensive pop-philosophy whle shooting, and shooting, and blowing big stuff up, and again some shooting Oh, and Batou is a boring character , get rid of him and insert a perky side-kick.. /cynisysm
ugh..so the terrible rumours were, indeed, the horrible truth.
Well If Mr. Speilburg will stick to the orginal Idea of GiTS and follow the TV-Series instead of trying to redue the orginal Animated-Movie. Everything will be fine just as long as he doesn’t try to AMERICANIZE the (whole) Concept or dumb everything down…. You have to make your audience THINK. After all GiTS its an ADULT thinking Person’s ANIME!!!
I don’t want to call everyone stupid, but I don’t think the general public is ready to assimilate Ghost In The Shell and neither the Hollywood big shots are ready to make a ovie out of it. The general public, and Americans particularly, are just going to blindly eat up this beautiful and complex story just like they swallow their movie-Big Mac’s, like Transformers and many others like it.
I hope Spielberg has the heart and courage not to ruin it.
