Rare Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Fakes?

Monday December 29, 2008

If you're a collector of Yu-Gi-Oh! trading cards, consider yourself warned: according to ICV2.com, Konami Digital Entertainment Corporation filed suit against Texas company Vintage Sports Cards for selling re-packaged Yu-Gi-Oh! trading cards that contained counterfeit rare cards.

In the suit, Konami alleges that Vintage repackaged the cards to indicate that they were "packaged and distributed by Vintage Sports Cards" and that the packages contain "3 Ultra-Rare Cards". The rare cards in question use a different paper type, varnish and holographic security foil than that of original Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and are therefore, according to Konami, counterfeit. The other cards contained in the packages appear to be the real deal.

Why is this a problem?

For those of you that don't play the TCG's, rare cards carry a lot of weight in the game, thus the value of holding some of these hard-to-get cards in your hand. The counterfeit cards could also cause some problems in the TCG tournaments that are held around the country. The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for Central California in October.
