Anime News - 7/7/08

Monday July 7, 2008
Happy Monday everyone. Here's what's happening this week in anime :)

FUNimation has announced a partnership with Geneon Entertainment to distribute some choice Geneon titles in North American later this summer. Included in the list is Ergo Proxy, Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon and Elemental Gelade. They've also announced the acquisition of a new sci-fi adventure series called Heroic Age to be released sometime in 2009. You can check out the trailer here.

Naruto fans can start smiling again. VIZ Media has announced the release of Naruto Movie 2: The Legend of the Stone of Gelel. Set to hit your favorite DVD shelves on July 29th, Naruto 2 is a two-disc set that includes a full hour of bonus extras.

And since we're on the subject of announcements, TOKYOPOP has announced quite a few new manga titles, including Phantom Dream, Tsubasa: Those With Wings, Momo Tama and a .hack//G.U. graphic novel.

For those of you that have seen the anonymous spreadsheet file floating around from uploader.jp, Bones President Mashahiko Minami has stated officially that the document did not come from his company and they are investigating who posted it at uploader. More to the point however is that the document suggested that the Bones Anime Studio might possibly be looking at a sequel to both Fullmetal Alchemist and Darker Than Black and that has apparently been sort of confirmed. While they haven't committed to the sequels, Minami did state to ANN that Bones was interested in the idea.

Also noteworthy, Bandai Entertainment released an announcement that they have licensed Gundam 00 to Starz Media which will air the series on the Sci-Fi Channel beginning in November during its "Ani-Monday" programming block.
